Having a career as a graphic designer in my own firm (In House Graphics) for over 25 years has been a true benefit translating to my portrait drawing. Experience has not only taught me the importance of composition, tonal value and texture, but also the need for accuracy in every detail - vitally important for a commissioned portrait. Through the process of working with a client, I build a relationship to learn more about their personality and unique traits. The twinkle in the eyes or twist to a grin is what gives a portrait its visual and spiritual likeness. The client must feel part of the process from the initial meeting through the photo session and to completion. Relationship is everything.
I am a member of the Portrait Society of America. With the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, I am both a Northwest Louisiana Artist Roster and Collectible Artist. In the coming months, my art will be shown at the Marlene Yu Museum, Artspace, Central Artstation, Rhino Coffee, and at private receptions throughout the region.
My immediate goal is to continue experimenting with pastels and eventually oils. Thank you for visiting my site and feel free to contact me. Thank you so much for taking a moment to browse through my site!
“I've been impressed with Janet's work for a long time, but she found her passion and true talent in portraits. When I saw one of Janet's portraits, I just had to commission one on the spot. Glad I did. She was easy and friendly to work with when I wanted to surprise my wife with a portrait of our grandson. Her portraits come alive. They take your breath away."
“My siblings and I commissioned Janet to draw a graphite portrait of our mother for Christmas. It turned out so well that we decided to have her draw our father then as well. We had intended to wait for his birthday a few months later, but we were too excited! We had them open each other's simultaneously. Both began to cry when they saw the beautiful image of their sweetheart. These portraits are so life-like, they look as though they jump off the page.”
“I have worked with Janet for several years in the professional design field— but only recently did we discover our mutual love for portraiture. I immediately took note of her amazing gifts—to not only capture the required likeness of her subject, but to also touch into the soul. Her particular attention to expression goes beyond what’s seemingly present. Through Janet’s hands and vision, striking eyes, delicate lips and overall skin quality come together to reveal the life and personality within each subject. Basically stated—her completed works have an intimacy and depth I’ve rarely seen in typical portraiture.”
